This past weekend was one for the books. Seriously, I am going to be putting these photos in a photo album for sure. It just might take me three years, but I will do it.
We didn’t entirely plan it, but we did so many Christmas things, it was awesome. Nothing felt forced, everything was spontaneous and fun, which is my kind of weekend. Lots of Christmas lights, yummy food, shopping, and family time. Oh, and Home Alone!! Here’s how it went down:
On Friday evening I took some family photos of our dear friends, Dillon and Pri. You’ve seen them on the blog before. We decided afterward to all head to Saint Louis for dinner and to see the lights at the Anheuser Busch brewery. We went to a Vietnamese restaurant, Pho Grand which was very good, they’re vegetarian lettuce wraps were delicious. And then we picked up some gelato next door.
They had all kinds of delicious flavors. I bugged the guy behind the counter and tried all of them. I finally decided on a combo of white chocolate and salted caramel chocolate, which was by far my favorite.
The lights were so well done and classic. They had all kinds of fun activities going on. Jordan was really disappointed he missed getting a wristband for the free beer. But, it was really too cold for that, I totally would have opted for some hot chocolate instead.
On Saturday we woke up and Jordan made us a huge breakfast. Crepes, eggs, potatoes, and a smoothie. It was so good that I couldn’t eat anything the rest of the day I was so full.
I spent the rest of the afternoon shopping with my friends, Jess was there. We went to all my favorite stores that I don’t get to go to as often, homegoods, tjmaxx, and hobby lobby. I found some really good things! Homegoods has so many good gifts right now.
Afterward we stopped by to see another light show in the area. It turned out to be a much bigger deal than I thought! We met our friends and stopped by to their petting zoo. And just look at this furry guy! He was so sweet, I just wanted to take him home, but I don’t think Ruby would be too happy out that. Do you see the look she’s giving him in the photo above?
Sunday was a wonderful day of rest and catching up around the house. We went to church in the morning and then ran some errands and did all sorts of deep cleaning inside. We also decided to put up the lights outside. We had been putting it off, but it was really quite easy this year! It took us less than an hour to get them up, a big improvement from last year. I guess that’s the perk of living in the same place, huh?
We also had an excellent little helper. At one point Ruby has scaled the other side of the ladder! I was right by her, but then had to stop her because she would have just climbed to the top! The girl has no fear. I should have known, because she’s a climber.
Here’s how they look! Simple!
Our advent calendar activity on Sunday was to watch Home Alone. Jordan picked up a pizza and we watched it as a family. It was so fun! Ruby also was totally watching it, too. aaand I’m not so sure we’re going to be able to do this one again next year when she’s a little more aware.
We aren’t doing Elf on the Shelf this year, but we have it. I’m still not so sure what I think about it. There were some great thoughts on my instagram from a lot of friends if you want to check it out.
Jordan having the time of his life.
It really was the perfect December weekend. Sometimes I feel like there is so much to do and we often decide to not do it. But, this year we’re doing as much as we can and saying yes to the fun, to friends, to family. And my heart is happy and we’re having a great time!
What are your December weekends looking like?
